Top 5 Blogs I Read This Week and 1 Video You Need To Watch (May 6, 2016)

I try to read as many blogs as possible. Each week I try to share a few of the ones that stood out to me as well as a short video clip worth your time to watch.

7 Reasons Why Every Pastor Should Have a Blog (Thom Rainer)
Thom Rainer is convinced that every pastor should have a blog. I would tend to agree with him. Yes, I know it is something else to add to your plate. Yes, I know writing may not be something you think you are good at. But it is a great way to continue to invest not only in your church members/attenders but also in a potentially countless number of people through the internet. If you currently have a blog that you update regularly, please forward the url (and rss feed if you know it) to me and I will add it to the new BBFI mobile app.

5 Leadership Lessons from the Dissolution of Mars Hill Church (Carey Nieuwhof)
I will confess, this is not a new blog post. It is actually from November 2014 but it is worth the read again. Typically, we study the successes in ministry and business, but here we can learn from the failures of a ministry. Here is a sneak peak of two of the lessons: A personality can grow a church but infrastructure can sustain it; It’s never too early to start a succession plan.

Should I Post this on Social Media? 6 Questions to Ask Before You Publish (Frank Powell)
As of April 27, 2016 there are 1.65 billion monthly active Facebook users (1.09 billion are active daily) that spend on average 20 minutes per day “on” Facebook. How do you know what you should post and what you should not post? Frank Powell gives some great advice here.

Should Christians Vote for the Lesser of Two Evils (Russell Moore)
Obviously, this article from Russell Moore, the president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, is just one person’s opinion, but this is a question that all ministry leaders will have to be ready to answer in the coming months. Time to start doing our research.

My, Um, Um, Pulpit Mannerisms (Kenneth Quick)
This is an article from a Leadership Journal that is almost 20 years old but it is just as applicable today as it was when it was written (except for where it says to listen to your sermons on tape). If you desire to improve your public speaking ability, this is a good place to start.

Ravi Zacharias – Why must someone follow Jesus if they just live a good life?
This is a great apologetics video with Ravi Zacharias answering one of the most important questions for our culture today in regard to salvation.
